WASHINGTON (AA) - There has been a continuing decline in Americans' approval of the Supreme Court since the beginning of 2023, according to a poll released Wednesday.
The poll by the Marquette Law School indicated that only 41% of the country currently approves of the nine justices amid a continuous influx of media reports and watchdog complaints regarding ethics and transparency on the nation's highest court.
It revealed a majority of US adults, 59%, expressed disapproval of the court.
"This is a 6-percentage-point decline from January when 47% approved and 53% disapproved," said the poll.
The survey, conducted from May 8 to May 18, is the first conducted by the school since ProPublica's revealing report in early April about Justice Clarence Thomas accepting extravagant trips and gifts from a prominent Republican donor over the years.
In addition, following the Supreme Court's overturn of Roe v. Wade last June, there was a significant partisan division between Democrats and Republicans in their perspectives on the court.
According to a poll last July, only 38% of the country approved of Court following its decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Wednesday's survey involved interviews with 1,010 adults, and the margin of error is estimated at +/-3.7 percentage points.
