ISTANBUL (AA) – At least four people, including three children, have lost their lives during record-breaking rainfall in Myanmar, said a report Thursday.

The heavy downpour has predominantly impacted the southern regions, particularly Mon State, in the Southeast Asian nation.

The nation's Department of Meteorology and Hydrology on Wednesday recorded a historic first of 22.75 inches of rainfall, surpassing the previous record of 11.85 inches in July 2021.

As a result of the surging water levels in rivers, flash floods have occurred, as reported by DVB News on Thursday.

Authorities have evacuated tens of hundreds of people to safe locations in Mawlamyine, the capital of Mon State, and other townships such as Paung and Mudon.
