Regime shelling kills 1, injures 3 in Syria’s Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (AA) — One civilian was killed and three children were injured in a regime shelling in Idlib province in northwestern Syria, according to local sources on Sunday.

The attack targeted the town of al-Bara, south of Idlib, by regime forces stationed in Kafr Nabl town, sources with the White Helmets civil defense agency said.

One of the injured children was in serious condition, the sources said.

Idlib falls within a de-escalation zone forged under an agreement between Türkiye and Russia in March 2020. The regime, however, has consistently violated the terms, launching frequent attacks inside the de-escalation zone.

Syria has been mired in a vicious civil war since early 2011 when the Bashar al-Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests with unexpected ferocity.

Over the past decade, around half a million people have been killed and more than 12 million had to flee their homes, according to UN figures.
