ISTANBUL (AA) - A Romanian court on Friday extended former kickboxer Andrew Tate's detention until Feb. 27.

Tate and his brother Tristian, detained by police on Dec. 30, 2022, will remain in preventive detention from Jan. 29 until Feb. 27, according to the decision of the Bucharest Court, local daily Libertatea reported.

The same measure applies to his friend Georgiana Naghel and former policewoman Alexandra Luana, who, according to Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism prosecutors, were accomplices with the two brothers, the report said.

The four suspects, arrested on suspicion of human trafficking, rape, and forming an organized crime group to exploit women, can appeal the decision within 48 hours.

Authorities used Tate’s social media post in which he ridiculed a Romanian pizza chain to confirm he was in the country.

His arrest came after climate activist Greta Thunberg responded to a tweet by Tate, in which he boasted about his car collection.

Tate, a controversial online influencer, has been banned from a number of social media platforms for expressing extreme views, including that women bear some responsibility for sexual assault.
