By Sena Guler

ANKARA (AA) - Romania’s government has collapsed after a no-confidence vote in the parliament on Thursday, local media reported.

The no-confidence motion against the Social Democrat Government (PSD) was approved with 238 votes in favor, passing the minimum requirement by five votes, according to Romania-insider.

Four votes, out of 245, were against the motion, while three others were declared invalid.

Following the move, President Klaus Iohannis needs to name a new prime minister to form a new government.

"The nightmare that Romania has been going through in the last three years has ended. Today, Romania's Parliament dismissed the PSD Government that has mocked Romania," the Romania-insider quoted Ludovic Orban, the leader of the opposition National Liberal Party (PNL), as saying.

Orban is likely to be appointed by Iohannis to form the new government.

The opposition managed to overthrow a government for the first time since 2012, according to the Romanian media.
