Russia claims capturing Bakhmutske village in Donetsk region

Bakhmutske is located near strategic city of Bakhmut, through which Ukrainian army is supplied with weapons

MOSCOW (AA) – Russia claimed on Monday that its army had taken control of the Bakhmutske village in the Russian-controlled part of Donetsk region, eastern Ukraine.

“As of January 9, 2022, on the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic, the armed forces of the Russian Federation freed Bakhmutske,” a territorial military staff of Donetsk said on Telegram.

Bakhmutske is located near the strategic city of Bakhmut, a large transport hub through which Ukrainian troops in the Donbass region are supplied with weapons, military equipment and ammunition.

The heavy fighting has been taken place for several months for the control of Bakhmut.

Four Ukrainian regions, namely Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson, were attached to Moscow through a presidential decree last October after Moscow-backed referendums, which have been widely rejected by the international community.
