Russia says at least 8 injured due to Ukrainian shelling in Belgorod region

ISTANBUL (AA) – Russia said early Monday that at least eight people were injured in the Valuysky district of the country’s Belgorod region due to shelling by Ukrainian forces.

“According to preliminary data, seven people were injured, including one child with a broken collarbone. A man also suffered – he has a closed craniocerebral injury – and three women, two of them with shrapnel wounds, and another girl with a shell shock,” Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said in a statement on Telegram.

Gladkov said all those injured are currently in moderate condition and were taken to the district hospital by ambulance, further saying that two others sought medical help on their own caused by minor shrapnel wounds.

“There are damages in five apartment buildings and four private households: windows are broken, facades are cut. A utility building is on fire in one of the households. Operational services are on site, damage data is being specified,” he added.

A later update by Gladkov increased the number of people injured to eight, adding that 40 artillery shells and 14 Grad shells were fired at the city of Valuysky over the past 24 hours.

The governor also reported shelling in the districts of Belgorodsky, Borisovsky, Volokonovsky, Grayvoronsky, Krasnoyaruzhsky, and Shebekinsky.​​​​​​​

Ukraine’s armed forces have allegedly unleashed a series of attacks on Russia's border regions in recent months, notably Bryansk and Belgorod, which were hit with drones and artillery and were raided by paramilitary groups.
