MOSCOW (AA) - The authorities of Russia's Belgorod region bordering Ukraine said on Tuesday they would evacuate over 9,000 children due to Kyiv's shelling.

The children from the Belgorod, Shebekino and Grayvoronovsky districts of the region, which are close to Ukraine's border, will be relocated to Kaluga, Penza, Stavropol, and Tambov regions for the time being, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Telegram.

Gladkov emphasized that at least 16 people, including three on Tuesday, were killed over the past week and 98 injured in Ukraine's attacks in the region.

The governor said the Ukrainian troops hit a school and a hospital in the Grayvoronovsky district earlier in the day.

"One rocket hit the central district hospital of the Grayvoronsky district, the second rocket hit the school. Thank God children study at school remotely these days," he said.

Last week, the Russian Defense Ministry reported several attempts by Ukrainian sabotage groups to attack the settlements in Belgorod and Kursk regions.
