MOSCOW (AA) - Russia and Uganda signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, according to the Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation (Rosatom) on Thursday.

The ceremony was held on the sidelines of the 63rd International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General conference in Vienna on Sept.17, Rosatom said in a statement.

Under the agreement, Russia would build the center for nuclear science and technology in Uganda and visits of the industry experts on this issue are slated for the nearest time, the statement said.

"The agreement meets all modern requirements for such documents and lays the foundation for practical cooperation between Russia and Uganda in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. In particular, it implies joint work in such areas as: creation of nuclear infrastructure, production of radioisotopes for industrial, healthcare, agricultural use, as well as education and retraining", it said.
