Russian strikes kill 9 civilians, including 2 children, in Sumy: Ukrainian authority

KYIV, Ukraine (AA) – At least nine civilians, including two children, were killed in Russian airstrikes on Ukraine’s northeastern city of Sumy on Monday evening.

Russian warplanes destroyed two buildings on Romenska and Spartak streets in Sumy, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

Bodies of nine civilians, two of them children, have been pulled out of the rubble so far, the agency said.

According to UN figures, at least 406 civilians have been killed and 801 others injured since Russia launched its war on Ukraine.

The international body has said the real toll is much higher as conditions on ground make it “difficult to verify” the exact number of civilian casualties.

More than 1.7 million people have also fled to neighboring countries, the UN Refugee Agency said.
