Russian, US diplomats discuss North Korea

MOSCOW (AA) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his U.S. counterpart Rex Tillerson discussed North Korea over the phone, Russia's Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

In a statement, the ministry said the two diplomats discussed developments on the Korean Peninsula following Pyongyang's testing of an intercontinental ballistic missile on July 28.

This test was the latest step by North Korea in developing a weapon capable of striking the U.S.

The ministry said Lavrov and Tillerson agreed to meet on the sidelines of the 24th ASEAN Regional Forum, which will be held from Aug. 6-8 in the Philippine capital, Manila.
