S.Sudan main opposition to relocate HQ to Juba

Move comes after Dr. Riek Machar visited Juba on Monday and held a number of meetings with President Salva Kiir

SOUTH SUDAN (AA) - The Deputy of Sudan People's Liberation Movement-in-Opposition (SPLM-IO) Henry Odwar has confirmed that their headquarters will be relocated to Juba.

“Yes, IO is relocating its headquarters to Juba,” Odwar confirmed to Anadolu Agency in a text message.

The move comes after its leader Dr. Riek Machar visited Juba on Monday and held a number of meetings with President Salva Kiir.

The closed-door discussions revolved around the pending tasks of the extended pre-transitional period, particularly security arrangements and political status.

Odwar, however, didn’t give details about when the relocation is going to happen.

Another IO official was quoted by Eye radio saying that the political bureau of SPLM/IO met Wednesday and issued a decision of relocating the headquarters, and their work will resume from Juba.

This is according to a member of the political bureau of SPLM-IO, Agok Makur.

“Dr. Riek Machar came to Juba and spent three days and he returned this morning to Khartoum. Yes, we are considering this visit as a successful journey,” Makur said.

He said the two leaders also agreed to form a committee to study the promotion of the revitalized peace agreement.
