Second bombing rocks Egypt church: Local media

CAIRO (AA) – A second bombing was reported near a church in Egypt’s coastal city of Alexandria on Sunday, hours after at least 21 people were killed in a church explosion in northern Egypt.

Several people were reportedly injured in the blast that took place outside the church in Alexandria, local media reported.

Earlier Sunday, a bombing struck inside St. George church in the Nile Delta city of Tanta, killing at least 21 people.

At least 59 people were also injured in the bombing, according to the Health Ministry.

It was unclear whether the blast was caused by a bomb or a suicide bombing.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the bombing.

Sunday’s bombings occurred on Palm Day, a Christian feast commemorating the entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem.

In December, a bomb blast struck a church in central Cairo, killing more than 25 people and injured scores.

Coptic Christians are estimated to account for between 8 and 10 percent of Egypt's population of about 90 million.
