Security officers at Heathrow Airport announce summer strikes

Approximately 2,000 officers to participate in 31-day strike between June 24, Aug. 27

LONDON (AA) - London's Heathrow Airport is set to face disruptions this summer as security officers, who are members of the Unite union, are planning to go on strike.

Approximately 2,000 officers will participate in a 31-day strike between June 24 and Aug. 27, according to a statement by the Unite.

The strike action is expected to impact Terminals 3 and 5, as well as security checks for non-passengers, potentially leading to queues and delays for travelers.

The workers have rejected a pay offer of 10.1%, which they consider to be below inflation.

The consumer price inflation in the UK eased to 8.7% year-on-year in April, down from 10.1% in March but above the expectation of 8.2%.

While previous strikes at Heathrow have had minimal impact on passengers due to contingency measures, this fresh wave of strikes will involve Terminal 3 workers for the first time.

Unite General Secretary Sharon Graham said: "Unite is putting Heathrow on notice that strike action at the airport will continue until it makes a fair pay offer to its workers. Make no mistake, our members will receive the union’s unflinching support in this dispute."

As Heathrow is one of the world's busiest airports, people from all over the UK may be affected by the disruptions.
