BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) — Serbia on Wednesday morning evacuated over 100 schools in the capital Belgrade after receiving a bomb threat.
The Interior Ministry said 78 primary schools and 37 high schools were threatened.
The threat was made by email and police teams were deployed to conduct searches, the ministry said
It added that classes were suspended until the necessary investigations were carried out for the safety of students and teachers.
Education was later continued in some of the schools after searches were complete.
Interior Ministry officials and school principals are in constant contact and parents will be informed when the lessons can resume for the rest of the schools, it said.
Nemanja Starovic, state secretary for the Defense Ministry, said thousands of similar threats had been reported since the beginning of last year.
"It is quite clear that this is an orchestrated campaign of fear directed against Serbia," Starovic said on social media.
