ISTANBUL (AA) – The Seychelles, an island nation off East Africa, is set to build the world's largest salt-water floating solar power plant.

According to the Seychelles News Agency, a French renewable energy company has started work to build the plant in the eastern region of Providence on the country's largest island, Mahe.

The plant will boast five megawatt photovoltaic solar energy systems.

With the project, the tourism-based country, with a population of 99,000, aims to move one step closer to its zero emission target.

The project, which will be supported by the Seychelles government, is planned to be completed within seven months.

The power plant will not have a negative impact on underwater life or the environment.

The country currently provides most of its energy needs from fossil fuels.
