Sony buys video game developer Bungie for $3.6B

Sony to access to Bungie's game services including Halo and Destiny

ISTANBUL (AA) – Japanese technology giant Sony announced an agreement for acquiring 100% shares of the US-based video game developer Bungie for $3.6 billion.

The acquisition will enable Sony to access to Bungie's game services and expertise.

"Bungie will continue to operate independently, maintaining the ability to self-publish and reach players wherever they choose to play," said a statement by Sony late Monday.

Bungie is the owner of world-famous video games such as Marathon, Myth, Halo, and Destiny.

Sony has the well-known video game platform Play Station.

With the prominence of the metaverse concept, technology companies have increased their investments.

In January, Microsoft, which is the owner of another video game platform XBox, bought video game giant Activision Blizzard for nearly $69 billion.
