By Hassan Isilow

JOHANNESBURG (AA) - South Africa said Monday that four more people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases in the country to seven.

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said at a briefing that the seven cases were among a group of 10 South Africans who went on a skiing trip to Italy on March 1 and returned on March 3

All members of the group are currently in quarantine, according to health officials.

South Africa’s first case of the novel coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19, was a 38-year-old man from the group who returned from the trip and tested positive last week. His wife also tested positive.

The couple has two children, both of whom tested negative and are now being monitored by health officials.

Italy is the worst-hit country in Europe and outside Asia by the coronavirus, with the death toll in the country rising to 463.

The coronavirus was first detected last December in Wuhan, China.

The global death toll is nearly 3,500 with over 100,000 confirmed cases, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
