ISTANBUL (AA) – The death toll from rain-caused floods and landslides in South Korea has climbed to 49, while over 10,000 people have been moved to safer areas, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters said on Monday.

Rain has lashed parts of South Korea, including the capital Seoul, since last week. The southeastern province of North Gyeongsang was hard hit, with 19 casualties reported so far, Seoul-based Yonhap News reported.

Search and rescue teams continued to recover bodies, while dozens of others have been injured in rain-related incidents.

Authorities also found bodies inside a submerged bus.

Many vehicles and underpasses are still submerged, and authorities fear that “casualties could rise,” the news agency said.

Workers and rescuers continue the operation to drain out water and search for any survivors.
