S&P, Nasdaq post best weekly performance since November

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stocks closed Friday in positive territory with the S&P and the Nasdaq posting their best weekly performance since November.

The S&P 500 added 15 points, or 0.4%, to end the session at 3,999. It increased 2.7% for the week.

The Nasdaq rose 78 points, or 0.71%, to close at 11,079. The tech-heavy index gained 4.8% this week.

The Dow Jones rose 112 points, or 0.33%, to finish the last trading day of the week at 34,302. The blue-chip index was up 2% this week.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, fell 2.8% to 18.30. The 10-year US Treasury yield increased 1.6% to 3.503%.

The dollar index fell 0.06% to 102.18, while the euro lost 0.14% to $1.0831 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in positive territory with the price of gold adding 1.2% to $1,919 per ounce and silver rising 2% to $24.26.

Crude oil prices were up more than 1%. Global benchmark Brent crude was up 1.5% to $85.33 per barrel. US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude was around $79.90 -- up 1.9%.
