KHARTOUM, Sudan (AA) - At least 11 people were killed in Sudan’s Darfur region by government militia on Monday, a doctors group said on Tuesday.

In a statement, the Central Committee of the Sudanese Doctors said 20 others were wounded when the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a faction of the army, opened fire on the citizens in the Central Darfur state.

“On Monday a group of RSF has opened fire on the citizens on Dilaige area in the central Darfur state, killing 11 people and injuring of at least 20 people,” the statement read.

Without no clear reason behind the killings, multiple witnesses confirmed that they were committed by the RSF soldiers, according to the statement.

Sudanese protesters began a nationwide civil disobedience campaign on Sunday as part of pressures on the ruling Transitional Military Council (TMC) to hand over power to a civilian government.

More than 100 people have been killed since June 3 when the government forces broke up the sit-in by forces.

TMC later on promised to bring the perpetrators to the justice, vowing that it would release the results of investigation it conducts within three days.
