Sudan calls for dialogue to solve Ukraine crisis

European ambassadors ask Sudan to clarify position on Ukraine crisis

By Buhram Abdel-Men'em

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AA) – Sudan on Sunday called for halting hostilities between Russia and Ukraine and pursuing dialogue to solve their conflict.

The call was made following a meeting between Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Al-Sadiq and a number of European ambassadors in Khartoum.

A ministry statement said European envoys asked Khartoum to clarify its position on the Russian military attack in Ukraine against the backdrop of a visit to Russia by the deputy leader of the ruling Sovereign Council, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti.

Al-Sadiq said Hemedti’s visit to Moscow was planned before the outbreak of the Ukraine crisis to discuss bilateral cooperation between Sudan and Russia.

The Sudanese minister said Khartoum calls for diplomacy to reach a solution to the Ukraine crisis.

On Thursday, the Sudanese Embassy in Moscow denied reports that Hemedti endorsed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to recognize the two separatist-held enclaves in eastern Ukraine.
