KHARTOUM (AA) - Sudan’s opposition coalition on Friday held the previous regime of Omer Al-Bashir responsible for a military coup attempt on Thursday.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Babikir Faisal, a leading member of Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC), said the previous regime is attempting to sabotage the power sharing deal reached between the military and civilians.

Faisal said the presence of elements from Bashir’s regime in the army and security organs is still extensive and they can use it to topple the ruling Transitional Military Council (TMC) in order to sabotage the agreement.

He vowed to move forward to sign the power sharing agreement and for its implementation.

Sudanese army has announced on Thursday the arrest of at least 16 officers, adding that they are still tracking other plotters.

Head of the TMC's committee of security and defense, Lt. General. Gamal Omar said the plotters are aiming to obstruct the signature and the implementation of the power sharing deal between the TMC and the FFC opposition alliance.
