Opposition spokesman says he hopes to bring 'good news' to public after talks with country's military rulers

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AA) - A final agreement between Sudan’s opposition and its military rulers is expected by Saturday, as the two sides have concluded the majority of outstanding issues, according to the opposition negotiator.

"We do believe that tomorrow we will bring the Sudanese people good news about these talks," Ibrahim Alamin of the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) told a joint press conference early Friday after overnight talks with Sudan’s Transitional Military Council (TMC).

African Union mediator Mohamed Elhassan Lebbat also said the talks will continue with a crucial session on Friday evening, adding that the majority of the disputed areas have been addressed.

At the same press conference, military council spokesman Shams Aldin Kabashi (TMC) said that nine Rapid Support Forces (RSF) soldiers involved in the killing of protesters have been dismissed and arrested.

"Seven soldiers involved in the killing of protesters in Obied and two others responsible for yesterday’s incidents in the city of Omdurman have all been dismissed from work and now been arrested and are under investigation," he said.

Four protesters were killed in Omdurman, the capital Khartoum’s twin city, by unknown snipers, according to the Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors.

Sudan has remained in turmoil since April when the military ousted al-Bashir after months of protests against his 30-year rule, and he was succeeded by the military council.
