Sudan prime miniser arrives in Cairo

Abdalla Hamdok's first official visit abroad

CAIRO (AA) - Sudan’s newly-appointed Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok arrived Wednesday in Cairo on his first official visit abroad which came to "boost ties between the two countries."

Following a meeting between Hamdok and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the latter stressed Egyptian support “to the security and stability in Sudan, and the Egyptian support to the will of the Sudanese people,” according to a statement issued by the Egyptian presidency.

He added that Egypt will provide support to their brothers in Sudan, including developmental projects like an electricity joint grid and a railway project between the two countries.

Hamdok, for his part, expressed hope to benefit from these projects.

Following the one-day visit to Egypt, Hamdok will be in France before he heads to the UN General Assembly meetings in New York.

Ties between Sudan and Egypt witnessed tension in recent years on the longstanding dispute regarding the Halayeb Triangle area border territory and also differences and failures to reach a deal concerning an Ethiopian dam on the Nile River.
