KHARTOUM, Sudan (AA) – A Turkish aid agency provided a fast breaking meal, or iftar, Monday to 1,500 students in Sudan’s capital Khartoum.

The Turkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV) hosted the meal for students of the International University of Africa at its campus.

The event was attended by Irfan Neziroglu, Turkey’s ambassador to Sudan, and Mustafa Bulent Dadas, religious affairs consultant at the Turkish embassy in Khartoum, as well as lecturers and students.

Speaking at the event, Neziroglu said Turkey considers the people of Africa, including Sudan, brothers and thanked everyone who contributed to the charity work.

He also advised students to apply for Turkiye Scholarships -- a program offered by Turkey’s Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB).

Dadas told Anadolu Agency that the TDV is serving as a bridge between people regardless of their religion, race or sect.

He added that the foundation is in the service of humanity in 90 countries worldwide.

“We offered iftar meals to students coming from different regions of Africa. Within this month, we will be having iftar with 7,000 brothers and sisters,” Dadas said, adding they will also provide clothes to orphans.

He said 1,500 food packages will also be distributed throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
