Protesters demand appointing new head of judiciary and attorney general

By Behram Abdel-Monem

KHARTOUM (AA) - Thousands of Sudanese on Thursday took to the streets in Khartoum demanding judicial reform.

The protesters converged to the presidential palace to deliver a memo with a list of demands.

They demanded that an attorney general and head of judiciary be appointed.

Police held protesters 100 meters from the southern gate of the palace where they chanted slogans such as: "The people want justice for the martyrs".

Thursday's demonstrations came a few days after first government was sworn in for the transitional period after former President Omar al-Bashir was deposed by the military in April after popular protests against his 30-year rule.

A 39-month transitional period was agreed upon in August between Sudan's Transitional Military Council (TMC) and opposition Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) coalition.
