Sudan's parliament ratifies security deal with Turkey

Pact, signed in 2017, includes cooperation in technology, education, security, and fighting terrorism and organized crime

KHARTUM, Sudan (AA) – Sudan’s parliament on Tuesday approved a 2017 security cooperation agreement with Turkey.

Ibrahim Hamad, deputy chair of the Security and Defense Committee, said that economic and political ties between Turkey and Sudan are the fruit of historical progress between the two nations.

“This security cooperation agreement will benefit both countries," Hamad said.

According to a parliamentary report, the deal covers cooperation in modern technology, education, security, and the fight against terrorism and organized crime under the charter of the United Nations.

The report also states that Turkey has made great progress in ties with Sudan, underlining that Turkey would be a good friendly country for developing Sudan's economy.

It also stressed that bilateral relations have improved in the social context, while looking forward to improvement in the health and tourism areas.
