Sudan’s TMC, opposition reach power-sharing agreement

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AA) – Sudan’s Transitional Military Council (TMC) and the Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC) opposition alliance have reached a final agreement on power sharing, African Union mediator Mohamed Hassan Lebatt said early Saturday.

Lebatt told reporters in Khartoum after long talks between the TMC and opposition that the two sides have agreed on a constitutional declaration, which had been regarded as a major sticking point.

"We congratulate the Sudanese people and we believe this is a historic moment for Sudan. We announce here today that the final agreement between the TMC and FFC will be within a few days in a big ceremony," he said.

The agreement is regarded as a breakthrough towards power sharing in Sudan between the military and civilians after the ouster of President Omar al-Bashir.

Sudan has remained in turmoil since April 11, when the military establishment announced Bashir’s removal after months of popular protests against his 30-year rule.
