Suspect in custody after incident near US Capitol

WASHINGTON (AA) - A suspect has been taken into custody Wednesday morning after reportedly striking a police cruiser and then attempting to run over officers who were on foot.

A Washington D.C. police spokeswoman said there was a call of shots fired at 9:30 a.m. local time (1330GMT) on Independence Avenue, which runs along the south side of the U.S. Capitol.

There has been no confirmation that shots were fired, however, she said.
