SANLIURFA, Turkey (AA) - A suspect has been remanded in custody over the killing of a relative of Justice and Development (AK) Party lawmaker during election campaigning in southeastern Turkey, according to a judicial source on Sunday.

On Thursday, armed men attacked AK Party members, including MP Ibrahim Halil Yildiz in Sanliurfa’s Suruc district, leaving four people dead and eight injured.

Although Yildiz survived the attack with no injuries, his older brother Mehmet Ali Yildiz died after succumbing to his wounds at a hospital.

According to the Sanliurfa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, security cameras and statements of eyewitnesses identified Fadil Senyasar as the suspect involved in killing Yildiz.

Senyasar, who was injured during the incident, was arrested after he was given treatment at the Suruc State Hospital on Saturday night.

Earlier on Saturday, at least 19 suspects, including an opposition Peoples' Democratic Party’s (HDP) candidate for parliament, were arrested in connection with an armed attack on AK Party members in southeastern Turkey.
