TUBAN, Indonesia (AA) - One suspected militant was killed and three others arrested Thursday in a gunfight with officers from Indonesia's counter-terrorism squad on Java island.
National Police spokesman Martinus Sitompul told Anadolu Agency that four suspected militants exchanged fire with Detachment 88 personnel on a street in the coastal industrial city of Cilegon in Banten province during a raid.
“A terrorist was killed because [he] attacked an officer," he said.
Another suspect reportedly suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.
According to Sitompul, the four are accused of involvement in a January 2016 terror attack in Jakarta that killed eight people, including four Daesh-affiliated assailants.
“They had hidden the Thamrin [street] bomber and engaged in some militant training," he said.
Indonesia has been cracking down on militant groups since the 2002 Bali bombings in which 202 people died.
The country has been on alert against extremist activities since 2015, further heightening security measures after the January 2016 attack in the capital.
