Swedish man charged with ‘spying’ for Russia

Swedish citizen allegedly sold secret information about vehicle manufacturers to Russia, public broadcaster reports

STOCKHOLM (AA) - A Swedish man has been charged with espionage for allegedly selling secret information to Russia, local media reported on Monday.

According to Swedish public broadcaster SVT, the Swedish citizen allegedly handed confidential information about vehicle manufacturers Volvo Cars and Scania to Russia.

Swedish Prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist, who filed an indictment against the person in question for spying, reported that the 47-year-old had received €2,850 ($3,458) by selling information to Russia.

The Swedish Secret Intelligence Agency (SAPO) had filed a criminal complaint against the person for allegedly gathering intelligence for Russia in 2019.
