Sweltering heat kills hundreds of chickens in China
Around 4,000 chickens die due to overheating at farm in central China, due to cut in electricity supply to fans

ISTANBUL (AA) - Many hundreds of chickens died on a farm in central China’s Hubei province due to overheating, local media reported on Tuesday.
The incident happened at a time when China is seeing temperatures hit highs not seen in decades.
An initial probe showed the incident was caused by a power cut on Sunday night, Beijing-based Global Times reported.
A farmer found the dead chickens at around 11pm (1500GMT), which were later buried, and the accident is expected to cost around 200,000 yuan ($27,800).
Investigations showed that electricity to a fan was cut off, which led the chicken cage to quickly overheat, as airflow dropped.
China recently has been facing severe heat, with temperatures reaching the highest seen in six decades, according to the country’s National Climate Center.
