GENEVA (AA) - Switzerland announced further sanction against Russia on Wednesday and added more than 200 Russian business people and institutions to the list.

Economy Minister Guy Parmelin approved the imposition of sanctions on more than 200 additional individuals and entities in connection with serious violations of international law by Russia in Ukraine, the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research said in a statement.

“Switzerland’s list of sanctioned individuals and entities now fully mirrors that of the EU,” it said. “A further 197 individuals are now subject to financial sanctions and travel restrictions and 9 additional entities are now subject to financial sanctions.”

Switzerland announced it condemned Ukraine "in the strongest way" after Russia attacked Ukraine. The EU welcomed Switzerland's decision, which was made Feb. 28.

Before the Russia-Ukraine war, Switzerland hosted talks on Ukraine between the US and Russia.

The Russia-Ukraine war, which began Feb. 24, has drawn international condemnation, led to financial sanctions on Moscow and spurred an exodus of global firms from Russia.

At least 726 civilians have been killed and 1,174 injured in Ukraine since the beginning of the war.

More than 3 million refugees have fled to neighboring countries, according to the UN.
