Switzerland’s foreign minister visits his Cuban counterpart

TORONTO (AA) - Switzerland's Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis visited his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez on Monday.

The two foreign ministers met in the capital Havana and discussed bilateral ties between their countries and regional and international matters, according to a statement by the Cuban Foreign Ministry.

Rodriguez thanked the Swiss Federation for its support for the resolution Cuba presents to the United Nations General Assembly every year "condemning the economic, commercial and financial embargo” of the United States against the island nation.

"The decision to improve relations in connection with matters of mutual benefit has been made," said the statement, emphasizing financial and commercial cooperation between the two countries.

"In official talks with Ignazio Cassis, Federal Councilor of Switzerland and Chief of @SwissMFA, we emphasized the 120 years of uninterrupted diplomatic relations. We exchanged (views) on the development of cooperative links and economic & commercial opportunities," said Rodriguez on Twitter.

Diplomats from Switzerland and Cuba attended the meeting.
