ALEPPO, Syria (AA) - At least eight civilians were killed Thursday by regime airstrikes and artillery attacks in Syria’s northwestern Aleppo province, according to a pro-opposition civil defense official.
"Seven civilians were killed, including three children, and 11 others injured when regime aircraft struck Aleppo’s Babka village," civil defense official Najib al-Ansari told Anadolu Agency.
Civil defense teams rushed to the targeted area in hopes of rescuing victims stuck under the rubble of destroyed buildings.
On the same day, at least one child was killed when regime forces shelled Aleppo’s southwestern town of Banan al-His, according to al-Ansari.
On Dec. 30, a ceasefire deal brokered by Turkey and Russia went into effect throughout Syria.
According to Riyad Hijab, chief coordinator for Syria’s opposition High Negotiations Committee, the regime and its allies have violated the truce some 400 times -- killing at least 271 people -- since it came into effect.
