Syrian regime establishes total control over Damascus

With departure of Daesh terrorists from Yarmouk camp, Assad regime reclaims total control over capital

By Mohamad Misto and Selen Temizer

YARMOUK/ANKARA (AA) - The Syrian regime fully reclaimed Damascus on Monday after Daesh terrorists -- and some civilians -- were evacuated from the Yarmouk refugee camp as part of a deal between the regime and the terrorist group.

According to an Anadolu Agency correspondent based in the region, Daesh terrorists were evacuated to the Badia district in Homs province, while a number of civilians were allowed to depart for opposition-held parts of Idlib province.

With the latest evacuations, the Syrian regime has reclaimed all of Damascus -- including the city’s outskirts -- for the first time since the conflict erupted in 2011.

Located eight kilometers south of Damascus and inhabited mostly by Palestinian refugees, the Yarmouk camp sits on 16 square kilometers of land.

For the past five years, the camp had remained under siege by the Assad regime and Iran-backed militia groups.
