MOSCOW (AA) - Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin visited the Turkish Embassy in Dushanbe on Thursday to offer condolences for two powerful earthquakes that rocked Türkiye earlier this week.

"The Minister while leaving a message of sympathy in a book of condolence, which was opened in the Embassy on this occasion, wished to the family and relatives of the victims of this tragic natural disaster patience and full recovery to the injured," the ministry said on its website.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Thursday at least 16,170 people were killed and 64,194 injured by two strong earthquakes that jolted southern Türkiye.

The 7.7- and 7.6- magnitude earthquakes, centered in the Kahramanmaras province, were felt Monday by 13 million people across 10 provinces, including Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye and Sanliurfa.

Several countries in the region, including Syria and Lebanon, felt strong tremors in the space of less than 10 hours.
