Resort west of Malian capital attacked days after UN mission mandate for Mali renewed

DAKAR, Senegal (AA) - A terror attack was reported late on Sunday at a luxury resort frequented by tourists in Mali’s capital Bamako.
Security minister Salif Traore told a national broadcaster two people were confirmed dead and 10 others injured as operations to neutralize the terrorists continued.
Le Campement is located in the west of Bamako. The attack comes few days after the mandate of MINUSMA -- the UN mission in the country -- was renewed. An official from the UN also confirmed deaths and injuries had taken place but did not specify a number.
Officials from the French military mission in Mali, the EU and the UN were also at Le Campement this weekend on vacation, a Malian source, speaking anonymously, told Anadolu Agency.
The U.S. embassy in Bamako also put out a statement on social media saying an “ongoing attack” was taking place.
In November 2015, 20 people were killed in another hotel in Bamako, when around 170 people were taken hostage by terrorists.
