Three civilians killed in separate Baghdad attacks
Bombing, shooting leave three people dead in Iraq’s violence-prone capital
By Amer al-Hassani
BAGHDAD (AA) - At least three Iraqi civilians were killed Thursday in two separate acts of violence in Baghdad, according to an Iraqi police officer.
"Two civilians were killed -- and another four injured -- when a bomb tore through a public market in the capital’s northern Sabi Albour district," Baghdad Police Captain Nazhan al-Akhdar told Anadolu Agency.
“A third civilian was killed in Baghdad’s southern Dora district in an attack by unknown gunmen,” he added.
No group has claimed responsibility for either incident.
In recent months, devastating bombings -- often featuring explosive-laden vehicles -- have become commonplace in Iraq’s violence-prone capital.
The Iraqi authorities typically blame such attacks on the Daesh terrorist group, which captured vast swathes of territory in northern and western Iraq -- including the city of Mosul -- in mid-2014.
