KYIV, Ukraine (AA) - Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss discussed the imposition of additional sanctions on Russia over the war in a phone call early Monday.

"Call with @trussliz on next steps to apply more sanctions on Russia," Kuleba said on Twitter.

"Pressure must increase until Russia ceases its meaningless aggression and stops barbaric war crimes.”

Kuleba also expressed his gratitude to the UK for “stepping up support for Ukraine."

Since the start of Russia-Ukraine war, the UK has sanctioned more than 500 of Russia’s "most significant and high-value individuals, entities and subsidiaries, bringing the total now covered by the UK’s sanctions list to over 800," according to a statement by the UK government.

"Regular international talks. With President of the EU Council @eucopresident (Charles Michel), we discussed the issue of increasing financial support for Ukraine and sanctions pressure on the aggressor. Special attention was paid to the further negotiation process on Ukraine’s EU membership," Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote earlier on Twitter.

Since Russia launched its war on Ukraine, more than 2.69 million people have fled to other countries, according to UN estimates.

At least 596 civilians have also been killed and 1,067 injured in Ukraine, it said.

While the European Union, the US and others have imposed sanctions on Moscow, many companies and global brands have also suspended operations in Russia.
