Trudeau reiterates Canada’s support for Ukrainian people in phone call with Zelenskyy

TORONTO (AA) - Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke by phone Monday with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Russia’s ongoing war, said the prime minister's office.

"The Prime Minister reiterated Canada’s solidarity with the Ukrainian people as they remain resolute in the face of Russia’s brutal and unjustifiable aggression, including strikes on civilian targets and the unlawful deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia," said the statement.

The two leaders discussed the current situation in Ukraine and how Canada can continue supporting the country now and in the future.

Trudeau reiterated Canada's commitment to stand with Ukraine with military, humanitarian, financial and other types of aid for as long as necessary, the statement added.

"The Prime Minister also expressed support for Ukraine’s diplomatic efforts toward a just peace and looked forward to President Zelenskyy’s virtual participation in the upcoming G-7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan," it said.

Trudeau and Zelenskyy also reiterated their intention to remain in close and regular contact.
