Trump classified documents trial set for Aug. 14

Initial trial date might change as Trump's attorneys expected to request delay, according to media reports

NEW YORK (AA) - Former US President Donald Trump's trial is scheduled to begin Aug. 14 on 37 counts related to his alleged retention of classified government documents, a judge announced Tuesday.

Judge Aileen Cannon in the state of Florida ordered that pre-trial motions be filed by July 24.

The initial trial date might change as Trump's attorneys are expected to request a delay, according to the media reports.

Special Counsel Jack Smith said Trump’s trial could be completed in as little as 21 days.

Trump pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Twice-indicted Trump became the first former US president to face federal charges.

He also faces state charges related to his business dealings in New York.
