Trump to appear in Florida court in classified documents case

WASHINGTON (AA) - Former US President Donald Trump will appear Tuesday in a federal court in the state of Florida to face charges in a classified documents case.

Trump is accused of misleading investigators and mishandling the nation’s secrets.

The former president is scheduled to appear in Miami before a judge at 3 p.m. local time, according to multiple reports.

He will be arraigned on 37 criminal charges about the mishandling of classified documents subsequent to his tenure in office.

Trump is expected to surrender, undergo the fingerprint processing and be escorted to the courtroom where he will hear the charges, CNN reported.

His aide, Walt Nauta, who was also charged in the indictment, is expected to appear alongside Trump.

Miami Police Chief Manny Morales expressed the utmost seriousness regarding the arraignment.

"We are taking this event very serious. We know there is a potential of things taking a turn for the worse, but that is not the Miami way," he said at a news conference Monday.

Morales said he does not anticipate security issues in the city, indicating that the police department has sufficient resources to deal with up to 50,000 protestors.

Trump is expected to speak later Tuesday when he returns to his resort in Bedminster, New Jersey.
