TUNIS (AA) - Tunisia is planning to impose a night curfew in four states, starting from Thursday until further notice, to stem the spread of coronavirus in the country.

The governor of Tunis, Chadli Bouallaq, Wednesday told local Radio Mosaic: "This decision was proposed on Tuesday during a meeting between Minister for Health Fawzi Mahdi and governors of the Greater Tunis region which includes four states: Tunis, Ben Arous, Ariana and Manouba."

He said the disaster response committees in the four states will meet to approve the curfew strategy which starts from 8:00 pm (19:00GMT) until 5 am (4:00GMT).

He continued: "The epidemiological situation has escalated during the last two weeks in terms of the number of deaths and infections."

As of Wednesday, the North African country has recorded a total of 24,542 cases of coronavirus, including 364 deaths.
