Tunisian Ennahda stresses need for constitutional court

TUNIS (AA) - Tunisia's Ennahda Movement on Wednesday warned against possible instability in the country due to the parliament's failure to elect members of the constitutional court.

On last Thursday, the Tunisian parliament failed for the seventh time to elect three members for the constitutional court.

Speaking at a news conference, Abdelkarim Harouni, a leading member of Ennahda, expressed hope the court's board would be ready before the parliamentary polls slated for Oct. 6.

He called on the parliamentary blocs and members "to set narrow interests aside in favor of the country's high interest."

The Constitutional Court, judicial body approved in 2014 constitution, consists of 12 members, four of whom elected by the parliament, four by the Supreme Council of the Judiciary and four by the president.
