ANKARA (AA) - At least 91 were arrested in Turkey on Monday as part of an investigation into alleged irregularities in the the country's Foreign Ministry entry exam with suspected links to the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO).

Prosecutors in the capital Ankara issued arrest warrants for 249 suspects on Monday prior to operations in 42 provinces.

The suspects had entered the Foreign Ministry in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013, prosecutors said in a statement.

It added that the arrests were made as part of investigations on irregularities made during these exams in favor of FETO members.

FETO and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, which left 251 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Ankara also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
