ANKARA (AA) - Turkey on Wednesday identified a Daesh/ISIS terrorist arrested on Dec. 31 as being sought with an international red notice, said the country's Defense Ministry.

On Dec. 31 a dozen suspects trying to illegally cross into Turkey from Syria were arrested by border security guards, said a ministry statement.

The Daesh/ISIS terrorist suspects were made up of five Russian nationals, four Uzbekistan nationals, and three others from Kyrgyzstan, it added.

A comprehensive investigation “determined that one of the terrorists was sought with a red notice," added the ministry statement.

Turkey was one of the first countries to declare Daesh/ISIS as a terror group in 2013.

The country has since been attacked by Daesh/ISIS terrorists multiple times. The terror group has carried out at least 10 suicide bombings, seven bomb attacks, and four armed attacks, killing 315 people and injuring hundreds more.

In response, Turkey launched anti-terror operations at home and abroad to prevent further attacks.
