Turkey: Borsa Istanbul stocks open Monday down

BIST 100 index falls by 0.23% compared to last week's close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index dropped 0.23% or 216.53 points to open at 95,760.29 points Monday.

On Friday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index decreased 0.10% to close the week at 95,976.82 points with a daily trading volume of 4.55 billion Turkish liras ($786 million).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 5.8130 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), compared to previous closing rate of 5.7670.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also rose to 6.5780, versus 6.5280 at the last week's close.

One British pound traded for 7.6230 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY exchange rate was 7.5750 at market close on Friday.

The price of Brent oil was $71.40 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Monday.
